Ernesto博士智利大学取得生物学学士学位，他在德国图宾根大学和智利天主教主教大学获得神经科学博士学位。在攻读博士学位期间，他研究了睡眠期间海马和大脑皮层之间的动态变化及其在记忆中的作用。之后，他在马克斯-普朗克生物控制论研究所担任博士后研究员，研究了小脑位置在记忆和睡眠中的作用。Ernesto后于莱布尼茨神经生物学研究所继续研究神经节在正常和病理情况下的作用，担任博士后。2024 年 4 月，他加入了国际灵长类脑研究中心（ICPBR）。 他是Logothetis教授领导的认知的神经基础研究组的副研究员。
