Fully Funded Postdoc or Associate Position(s)

The Dynamic Embodied Brain Laboratory (DEB Lab; Henry Evrard, PI) at the International Center for Primate Brain Research (ICPBR; Nikos Logothetis & Mumming Poo, directors) in Shanghai is hiring multiple highly motivated postdocs/associates with strong skills in in vivo electrophysiology,  fMRI, or NHP behavioral tasks. Using ‘ground truth’ neuroanatomy as a gold standard, the DEB Lab combines fMRI, electrophysiology, and autonomic bodily physiology, in anesthetized and awake NHPs, along with viral tract tracing and local neural activity manipulations. The overarching goal of the lab is to examine structural and functional pathways representing homeostatic bodily states (physiology) and substantiating the role of interoception in network dynamics underlying behavioral and physiological correlates of awareness. The lab also aims to develop models of specific human mental disorders. It is also involved in related multi-omics collaborations and in primate neuroanatomy (e.g., Rhesus Monkey Brain in Stereotaxic Coordinates, 4th Ed.).

General requirements:

-        Close to finishing a PhD or holding a PhD in neuroscience or any related fields.

-        Robust experimental and state-of-the-art analytical skills:

o   in vivo electrophysiology (rodent or NHP), and/or

o   fMRI (human or non-human), and/or

o   behavioral training and tasks in NHP.

-        Experience with programming (Matlab, R, Python). Experience with modeling multimodal data is a plus.

The ICPBR offers a unique international environment, with cutting-edge NHP research facilities, including 9.4T/7T/4.7T fMRI magnets, fine mechanical/electronic workshops, class-100 surgical facility, electrophysiological setups, access to multi-omics platforms (mesoscopic and single-cell connectomics, gene-mapping, gene-editing, viral transfection), human psychophysics and fMRI, rat fMRI (7T). There are numerous opportunities to collaborate both internationally and locally (e.g., Institute of Neuroscience, Lingan Lab, Fudan, Jia tong, ZIINS, SIAT…). While its main activities are in Shanghai, the DEB Lab is also active in Germany, Belgium (coll. with Wim Vanduffel), and New York with an international team interacting daily over multiple related projects.

The ICPBR offers an internationally competitive salary and benefits. It supports career and personal development including opportunities related to talent programs available for outstanding postdoctoral fellows in the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Shanghai provides excellent and unique cultural experiences, with a great modern quality of life, and opportunities to explore nearby Chinese and Asian destinations.

To get more information and/or to apply, please contact Dr. Henry Evrard (henry.evrard@icpbr.ac.cn) or the DEB Lab manager, Ms. Qian Liang (qian.liang@icpbr.ac.cn).
