Animal Caretaker– Rodent Facility

The International Center for Primate Brain Research (ICPBR)—co-directed by Prof. Nikos Logothetis and Prof. Mu-Ming Poo —is seeking an Animal Caretaker for its Rodent Facility.

The ICPBR is affiliated with the Center for Excellence in Brain Science and Intelligence Technology (CEBSIT, http://english.cebsit.cas.cn/) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Shanghai, China.

Platform Introduction

ICPBR rodent facility provides SPF (Specific Pathogen Free) rat husbandry and veterinary care services for scientific research. It consists of cleaning, storage, changing, air shower, sterile storage and barrier housing rooms. The barrier housing room is equipped with a micro-isolation caging system, clean bench, and temperature and humidity monitoring systems, with a controlled 12-hour light cycle. The cleaning room is equipped with a pulsating vacuum sterilizer, while the drinking water is provided by a reverse osmosis pure water system. Animal beddings, water, cages, enrichment, wrapped surgical instruments or other materials that come into contact with animals are sterilized by the autoclave. Bedding is corn cob and is changed within a clean bench. Environmental enrichments include teething blocks, paper tubes, and paper-type bedding.

Roles and Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will vary depending on the stage of ongoing projects and will include,but are not limited to:

1. Animal Care & Facility Operations:

  • Perform daily animal care (feeding, health monitoring).
  • Perform daily rodent facility cleaning and disinfection.
  • Perform cage and equipment cleaning and sterilization.
  • Maintain facility and equipment, including usage records.
  • Manage inventory of experimental supplies and consumables.

2. Animal Experimentation Support:

  • Perform experimental procedures on rats: dosing (e.g., oral gavage, injection), blood collection, perfusion, and tissue sampling (organs, brain, etc.).
  • Assist in establishing animal models and provide postoperative care.
  • Conduct behavioral experiments.
  • Document experimental records and assist with data analysis.

3. Other Duties:

  • Assist with relevant tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: 
  • Experience: Prior experience in animal care/experimentation preferred;fresh graduates are acceptable.
  • Soft Skills: 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Passion for animal welfare and commitment to long-term work in animal care/management.
  • Holders of a Veterinary License or Pressure Vessel Operation Certificate will be prioritized.
