Research Assistant – Experimental Neuroscience (Macaque Research)

The International Center for Primate Brain Research (ICPBR) is co-directed by Prof. Nikos Logothetis and Prof. Muming Poo, and is affiliated with the Center for Excellence in Brain Science and Intelligence Technology (CEBSIT) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Shanghai.

The Laboratory of Physiology of Cognitive Processes, led by Prof. Logothetis and Dr. Murayama, is seeking a highly motivated Experimental Research Assistant with experience in animal training and experimental work with macaque monkeys.

The laboratory aims to understand the neural mechanisms underlying cognitive processes in the primate brain, operating concurrently at micro-, meso-, and macroscopic levels. Our research combines multidisciplinary approaches and cutting-edge technologies, including multi-site electrophysiological recordings, electrical or optogenetic stimulation, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Roles and Responsibilities:

1.     Assist in and perform animal training and experiments with both behaving and anesthetized macaque monkeys.

2.     Assist in neurosurgical procedures involving macaque monkeys.

3.     Assist with the installation, operation, and maintenance of experimental equipment, and communicate with equipment suppliers and maintenance service providers when necessary.

4.     Perform other laboratory-related duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator.

Requirements:

1.       Experience in animal handling, care, and training with macaque monkeys.

2.       Bachelor’s degree or higher in neuroscience, veterinary science, or a related field.

3.       Good spoken and written English communication skills.

4.       Programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, C/C++, or related languages) are desirable.
