Biography
Dr. Fang received his B.S. in Biology from Huazhong Agriculture University in 2012, and his Ph.D. in Cognitive Neuroscience from East China Normal University (ECNU) in 2019. He then did his postdoctoral work at The Center for Excellence in Brain Science and Intelligence Technology (CEBSIT) in Shanghai, China. Fang joined CEBSIT in 2022 as associate investigator of the Laboratory of cognition.

Research Interests
Consciousness is a fundamental fact of human existence. The research on the neural mechanism of consciousness is one of the most important and challenging subjects in neuroscience. My work utilizes psychophysical measurements, computational modeling, and single-unit and population recoding to investigate the neural mechanisms underlying consciousness and self-consciousness. Specifically: 1) Through the use of bodily illusion tasks in humans and monkeys, my aim is to characterize computational principles and neural basis of self-consciousness; 2) Through the use of sequence working memory tasks, I also investigate the neuronal representation of conscious and unconscious contents, as well as how information is manipulated in consciousness.
