School Policies

By attending the ICPBR Summer School on Non-Human Primate Systems Neuroscience (ICPBR School), the participants agree to abide by the school’s policies, described below, and by all applicable national and regional laws during their stay in Shanghai. The Summer School is organized by the International Center for Primate Brain Research (ICPBR), with participation of the Institute of Neuroscience (ION).



APPLICATION PROCESS

We recommend that you apply early to ensure that your application is received on time (deadline: 30.04.2024, 11:59 p.m. GMT+8).

Application

  • Please use the online application form to submit your application.Applications sent directly to ICPBR/ION lab heads via email or other means will not be considered.
  • All required fields of the application form must be filled before submission. 
  • All needed documents must be provided in English.

Selection

  • Applications will be reviewed by the selection committee of the ICPBR School, following the principles of inclusion, diversity, and the code of conduct of the ICPBR.
  • The result of the selection process will be communicated by email 4 to 6 weeks after the application deadline.
  • A total of 30 candidates will be selected to attend the school course, with reserve to slightly change this number based on logistic conditions.
  • Out of the 30 selected candidates, a maximum of 10 candidates will be selected for the research internship following the course.
  • ICPBR will cover travel costs associated with the school, such as airfare, accommodation and meals for the duration of the school.

The costs for the internship are also borne, subject to the candidate adhering to the school's guidelines.

Eligibility

  • Graduate students and postdocs who are enrolled at an academic or research institution during the period of ICPBR School are eligible to participate.
  • Although the school may be more beneficial to doctoral or postdoctoral participants, all are welcome to apply.

Enquiries about further admission will not be answered. We encourage you to apply if you are interested.

Research Internship

  • The internship must fall within the designated period (1 month after the end of the school) and cannot be flexibly adapted.
  • Please note that the number of internship places is limited to a maximum of 10 candidates.


Requirements to be fulfilled during the program

  • Attend and actively participate in all required activities throughout the course.
  • Failure to meet these requirements will result in the denial of your financial support and certificate of attendance.


DATA PRIVACY

The ICPBR School is committed to protect all submitted personal data of the applicants and participants, in compliance with Chinese and international laws.

The type of personal information collected depends on your intended activity at the ICPBR School. At minimum, the organizers will collect your name, primary address, phone number, email address, and professional details such as career stage, affiliation (including name of the PI), etc. We also ask that you indicate your gender and any dietary restrictions, allergies, or health concerns, as ICPBR will arrange housing and food accommodation for all course participants. School applicants are additionally asked to submit a combination of personal statements, resumes/CVs, and letters of reference. Participants to the subsequent internship may be asked for a recent tuberculosis (TB) test to be able to enter the animal facilities.

The ICPBR School is the sole repository of all information collected through our website. We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with other organizations. The ICPBR School utilizes personal information provided by you to organize and manage the event(s) you attend. Upon acceptance, we may also contact you years after the event(s) you attended to assess the course's long-term impact, and/or to announce events, networks, and online groups for alumni of that course.

DIVERSITY, INCLUSION, & FINANCIAL COVERAGE

The ICPBR School is strongly committed to diversity, inclusion and non-discrimination in the recruitment, selection, and invitation of participants for all our sessions and courses. All organizers consider the inclusion of qualified individuals from any groups underrepresented in the sciences.

The ICPBR School aims to provide financial coverage for domestic and international flights, local transportation, accommodation, and meals for the current event.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS IN THE ICPBR SCHOOL

The ICPBR School, ICPBR and ION are committed to provide an environment for rigorous scientific pursuit, fruitful interactions, and a high-quality training program for trainees. Consistent with their missions, commitments, and policies, the ICPBR’s code of conduct is intended to outline ICPBR’s and ION’s expectations for the professional conduct of the participants enrolled in the course, including instructors, lecturers, assistants, trainees, vendors, and aides. This code is meant to be consistent with the policies that the ICPBR and ION have for their own faculty, trainees, students, and employees.

By attending any part of the ICPBR School, the participants agree to:

  1. Treat fellow participants and ICPBR/ION staff with respect, civility, and fairness, and without bias based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, citizenship status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, marital status, veteran status, genetic information, or any other criteria prohibited under applicable Chinese or local law.
  2. Use all ICPBR/ION facilities, equipment, computers, supplies and resources responsibly and appropriately, as you would at your home institution.


Similarly, course participants agree to refrain from:
  1. Discrimination in violation of institute policy based on age, gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, or sexual orientation.
  2. Behavior that is disrespectful to others, and unprofessional interpersonal behavior that interferes with the working and learning environment.
  3. Unwanted physical contact with others, or threats of such contact.
  4. Sexual harassment or harassment based on age, gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, or sexual orientation.
  5. Loss of civility that interferes with the working and learning environment (for example shouting, personal attacks or insults, throwing objects or other displays of temper).
  6. Misappropriation of institute property or excessive personal use of resources.

Breaches or Violations of the Code of Conduct

All participants are responsible for maintaining a learning environment in accordance with the principles and expectations outlined in this code of conduct. The ICPBR School organizers, either jointly or individually, are the primary individuals to resolve breaches of the code of conduct that may arise during the ICPBR School courses and events and should aim to resolve conflicts and counsel course participants in a non-threatening, constructive and private manner as appropriate.

In cases of an issue of conduct during any of the activities of the ICPBR School, said conduct should be reported to program organizers in person or by email: henry.evrard@icpbr.ac.cnor yong.gu@icpbr.ac.cn. 

The ICPBR School organizers will take action as needed to resolve the matter, up to and including immediate expulsion of the offending participant(s) from the course, dismissal from the institute, and exclusion from future academic events offered by ICPBR.

PHOTOGRAPH RELEASE WAIVER & ATTRIBUTION POLICY

By participating in an ICPBR course, the participants grant the ICPBR School and its photographer(s) the freedom to photograph them while on ICPBR and ION property, during the course, and to use those photos in ICPBR and ION publications, websites, social media accounts, and/or other materials, for the purpose of promoting the course and the ICPBR and ION activities

Personal use of ICPBR/ION photographs, obtained through official ICPBR galleries or social media accounts, is allowed with proper attribution. Commercial use or repurposing of ICPBR photographs and media is not allowed without permission; inquire via email info@icpbr.ac.cnto request permission.

TRAVEL

Visitors to the mainland of the People's Republic of China must obtain a visa from one of the Chinese diplomatic missions unless they are citizens of one of the visa-exempt countries.

The government of the People's Republic of China allows holders of ordinary passports issued by some countries to travel to mainland China for business and tourist trips for up to 15, 30, 60 or 90 days without having to obtain a visa.

Please check the current visa policies for your country. The ICPBR School organizers will provide the participants with a letter of invitation and all necessary information needed about the ICPBR School for the process of the visa application.
